Kalle Lasn here -- the editor-in-chief
and publisher of Adbusters. In creating our magazine and managing
our ongoing campaigns, we do battle every day with with the
crazy, daunting contradictions of our time.
Lately we've become convinced that this human experiment
of ours on Planet Earth is hitting the wall on a number of
fronts:
* Ecologically, we face a rapidly warming planet and
extinction of species in record numbers.
* Psychologically, we're caught in an epidemic of mood
disorders, and may no longer have the clarity of mind to deal
effectively with any number of looming crises.
* Politically, we're stuck in a never-ending war on
terror, the true nature of which may be the beginnings of
a dog-eat-dog struggle for what's left of the world's oil,
water and other resources.
While these are dark and depressing trends, we fervently
believe that there are a number of ideas brewing out there
that are big enough to turn the tide:
* True Cost Economics -- A theoretical shift in the
science of economics is an idea with the power to halt our
ecological slide. Stirrings of a student revolt have already
begun on campuses across the globe. Let's build these stirrings
into a full blown movement to over throw neo-classical economics.
* Kick-Ass Capitalism -- In a swift, judo-like move
we toss the megacorps onto the mat using the power of their
own brand momentum. For once, small will beat big, and grassroots
antipreneurial zeal will triumph over top-down corporate culture.
* Mental Environmentalism & the Media Carta Legal
Battle -- With funds and inspiration from many of you, our
legal action against one of the world's biggest and most notorious
media barons is about to hit the courts. This could prove to
be a major catalyst in advancing the global media democracy
movement and giving people back their voice.
We're also churning out provocative books like Design
Anarchy and teaching tools like the Media
Empowerment Kit, as well as working to expand our horizons
with the first-ever Spanish edition of Adbusters.
Please take the plunge -- we need you on board to keep up
the momentum!
